The name Lydekker (pronounced le-dekker) refers to “Lydekker’s Line” — the faunal boundary proposed by naturalist Richard Lydekker in 1895. Lydekker’s contribution to regional boundary-making is an imaginary one drawn between Australia and Papua New Guinea, on the one hand, and eastern Indonesia, on the other. It is just one way that people have drawn a distinction between Australia and Asia.

To us, Lydekker’s Line represents the challenge of bringing Australia closer to Asia, and to develop new relationships that bring expertise and insight together from different geographical starting points.

We want more people to talk to about big ideas, and more people engaging with Asia. We share our ideas on this page.
